In the name of God Amen, I, John Gillis of Arisaig, Gulf Shore, in the County of Sydney and Province of Nova Scotia, farmer, being very weak in health of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die; do make and ordain this my last will and testament; that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors; nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching what worldly wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:

First, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son John Gillis the sum of one shilling of lawful money of Nova Scotia.

Also, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Mary Gillis the sum of one shilling.

Also I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Catherine Gillis the sum of one shilling, all of which to be raised and levied debt my estate.

Also I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son Allan Gillis the sum of eight pounds in country produce one half to be paid by my son Angus and one half by Alexander.

Also I give and bequeath to my son Angus Gillis one half of my total of land lying at Arisaig aforesaid to be divided by a line drawn or ran across leaving to him the rear division.

I also give to my well beloved son Alex Gillis whom I likewise constitute, make and ordain the sole executor of this my last will and testament all and singular the front division of my said lot of land mepuages and tenements by him to be freely professed and and enjoyed always reserving for Flora, my dearly beloved wife her share of my said land as the law dreat and also one third of all the produce of the said front division in grain and potatoes, together with three milk cows to be always at the disposal also to be provided in firewood in a sufficient manner.

I also revere and ordain that my dearly beloved granddaughter, Catherine Gillis be by my son Alexander and my wife supplied in apparel suitable to her situation and that if joining the married state in decent manner agreeable to their desire she receive from my wife, one cow and six sheep, and from my son Alexander one cow, she always obeying them as a prudent young woman ought to do.

I also ordain that the said front division be supplied with timber from the rear division while timber lasts thereon and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disanull all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies bequeaths and execution by me in any wish before named willed and bequeathed, satisfying this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of June, one thousand eight hundred and thirty two.
