LST SCUTTLEBUTT - JAN/FEB 1990 - PAGE TWENTY THREE
COME TAKE A CRUISE |
|
Im sure many of us that were aboard LSTs would love to do just that, take another cruise but this time in calmer waters and under nicer conditions. Thanks to the Super Highway and electronic miracles, its possible to come take a cruise with us. All you need is a modem and Internet accessibility. Once you step onboard to the sounds of Anchors Aweigh, youll be given some back-ground information on LSTs in general, along with some info on LST 996. Following that is some general information and a schematic showing a cutaway of the ship. There are even a few links to bring you some more colorful information on LSTs and their plight during WW2. From there youll then get to meet all of the crew, while listening to the sounds of "Popeye". Along with that is the LST 996 photo album filled with pictures of the ship, its crew and some sights of the time. Next on display is our Ships log. This guides you through all the places we toured during our operations from beginning until the end. It even documents the death of President Roosevelt being received. |
Ever wondered what
happens to those good looking sailors? Well, if you visit our "Now & Then"
area youll see some of their transformations over the past 50+ years. This is where
we keep all our "Classy Dudes!" We
have a special area sectioned off with the crewmens wartime letters, the only
problem is we havent located any of them yet. Talk about true The more intriguing area is our Crewmen
Biographies. This will give you a glimpse into their private lives after the war ended and
they returned home to their family, friends & loved ones. Of course, some of those
loved ones are fair ladies met in port, not just your usual home town honies! The
LST 996 address (URL) is: If you served aboard LST 996, please contact me via Email at: goldies@pcom.net or through the mail so we can add your biography along with the other shipmates. Martin A. Greaser |
