Cookout Gathering for LST 996 Crew/Family |
During the weekend of the WW2 Memorial dedication and the LST 325 Tour being in Washington, DC, we will be having a Cookout/Gathering for LST 996 Crewmembers and/or their family members. I understand that some crewmembers might have passed already, so for their family members I still extend an invite to you to attend on their behalf. Maybe other crewmembers that attend can share information with you regarding your Dad/Granddad/Uncle, etc. So please don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like to come for the LST 996 Cookout (Waldorf, MD). Since the Dedication of the WW2 Memorial is on Saturday, it would be best to have a cook-out and gathering with the LST Crew on Sunday. Below is some info on the schedule of events....

Reunion Program Friday, 28 May..................... LST 325 Tour ??????
Saturday, 29 May........WW2
Memorial Dedication This is just a preliminary type Program, so we are all on the same page. If you'd like to make other suggestions for this let me know. I don't know how long folks can stay, so if we need to do the cookout gathering on Saturday we could possibly try that..... let me know. |
Cookout Menu
Vegetable Tray
Tuna &
Potato Salad
Deviled Eggs |
We were able to be seated together which was really nice. Prior to dinner, the Skipper awarded certificates (and handshake) to Dick & Dusty as "Plank Owners" on the LST 996 and for WW2 service. All three seemed to have nearly the same suits on for the Banquet, it was uncanny. The Skipper signed certificates for other known crewmembers, and those will be sent out in the near future.

Good evening all, I am Al Hunters son and yes I mentioned to my Dad that he needed to schedule some "vacation" when the LST 325 came to DC and Philadelphia. He asked me if I was coming up to take more pictures of it for him ? (you see I went to Mobile, AL and filmed her when she came back from Greece) I said no that I was coming up to take HIM to go see her. :-) He was very excited, so barring any major emergency Al will be there. Getting together in Waldorf sounds like a wonderful idea and I'm sure I can find a way to get Dad there too. You all take care!!! Ken |
The second one came from our newest refound crewmember, Merle Hamre:
