The file below is a transcript of the Naturalization paper for Deterich Griese.   Deterich means Richard. I'm not certain right now if this is Richard Griese (Greaser) the father of all our Greaser's, who was born about 1790 in Prussia, or his son Richard, who would have been about 21 years old in 1845. I hope to determine that soon.

                                       Court Held for Preston County                    June Seven 1845

Deterich Griese, a native of Germany and heretofore a subject of the King of Hanover, this day applied to this court, to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States.  Whereupon, the said Griese, proved by satisfactory evidence that he arrived within the United States more than five years ago and previous to this time and more than two years ago he had declared before the County Court of Allegany County in the State of Maryland his intention to become a citizen of the United States and it being proven to the satisfaction of the court that since the arrival of the said Griese as aforesaid he has resided within the United States more than five years and more than two years within this State and during that time he behave as a man of good moral character <?> attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same. Thereupon the said Griese declared on oath in open court that he would support the constitution of the United States and that the oath absolutely and entirely renounce and adjure all allegiances and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, State or sovereignty whatever and particularly to the King of Hanover the said Griese is admitted to become a citizen of the United States.
