Borgman Homeland - Kingdom of Hannover

For years, many of us have read through the Borgman Booklet about our ancestors, and the place they came from, and migrated to. Well, thanks to much research being done by Lou Smith and myself, we have been able to pinpoint their location.  Based on the manifest from the Ship Lucilla that Garrett & Lucy Margaret (Deaker) Borgman arrived on in the Fall of 1837, it listed their residence as "Starten".  One of Lou & Helga's quests when they visited Ankum, Germany in the Fall of 1999, was to find where or what Starten was.   As it turns out, it's a rather prestigious farm about 2 miles south of Ankum. Lou & his wife were able to find it and visit there.  They actually walked the ground where our ancestors raised their families before coming to the "Promised Land" here.

In addition, one of our newest found "cousins", Father Jim Edmiston, O.F.M.,  has been doing family research, and travels nearly yearly to the Ankum area. Below are some photos Father Jim has shared with us. This will give you an idea of one of the homes kept in the Borgman Family over the years. 

Hopefully at some point we will get to see some of Lou's photos taken at Starten and the Ankum area. He brought back some postcards of the Ankum area and St. Nicholaus's Church, Diocese of Osnabrueck, where our ancestors were baptized. As soon as I can get some of those scanned I will add them here as well.
